Are you organised and analytical, a leader, high achiever and a perfectionist? Do you write lists, take initiative, and take on tasks because “no-one else can do it properly”?
If so, you’re probably a “firstborn”... And according to psychologist Dr Kevin Leman, you can be a firstborn even if you weren’t the eldest child in your family...
Intrigued?... Kevin’s the author of The Birth Order Book, and his latest offering is a book called The Firstborn Advantage.... He spoke to us on Open House this week, sharing some fascinating facts on the common traits of a firstborn, and great advice on how they can make the most of their strenghts, and overcome their weaknesses.

I did ring on the evening and had the opportunity to speak on air with Sheridan. Having first born parents and being first born myself, I commented on being able to relate to what Dr Kevin had been speaking about. As an only child till the age of 10 the pressure to perform well by my parents was also very real, my efforts never seeming to be good enough even though I was a high achiever and did perform well in everything I applied myself to. This left me as an adult to try to deal with always trying to improve on myself in every situation. Until I found that God was with me in all of this, now I am learning how to be more accepting of myself and my shortcomings and to lean more on God and leave what I can't do or what I see as being inadequate upto to Him to fill in the missing pieces. I thank God for my faith every day.
